Why being Scott Allie is currently one of the most dangerous jobs in America...

Would you want his job? I wouldn't.

I really don't envy him. :-)

Also, apologies for my lack of artistic talent. If you don't understand what this cartoon is about, consider yourself fortunate.

They're asking him because they want validation, or reassurance, or ammunition; and because he's the only 'Buffy' creative person who's giving frequent interviews at the moment.

He's answering, I suspect, because he's not sufficiently aware of the mobs of ravening fans itching to tear him to pieces if he unknowingly says the wrong thing. :-)

And I think the job description of an editor is "editing the comic" *g* - you know, lining up writers and artists, making sure everyone meets their deadlines, getting approval from people who have to approve things, and so on. But see above about "only person connected to the comic available to talk to fans."

goofball

Wow, look at the skirts on those Bangel fans! What big sluts!

Oh, and the correct answer to that question is actually "Hank Summers".

No, really.

Posted by: StephenT (stormwreath)
Posted at: 13th March 2010 04:08 (UTC)

They might be wearing leggings or something, you know. And the one on the left is wearing jeans. :-p

As for Hank, let me quote Sarah Michelle Gellar about her own father:

"Just because you donate sperm does not make you a father. I don't have a father. I would never give him the credit or acknowledge him as my father."

Careful when you say that. There's a dozen people with axes over there waiting to get you... (and Scott).

Well, he could refuse to answer...

...and then get accused of ignoring the fans and being arrogant and out of touch and... yeah, you're right. He can't win. :-)

Buffy - Hee!

Hee! Though I feel compelled to ask if you got permission to depict real people in your art...

:D

Little do the shippers know that Scott has a trap set to suck them all into a hell dimension when they attack. You see, he's been "push[ing]" them towards this moment the entire season.

To be factual you'd have to depict thrice as many Spuffistas as there are Bangels :) At least here in lj Bangels are the spiffy minority

Posted at: 14th March 2010 19:01 (UTC)

You can imagine a whole horde of them stretching off to the right of the picture, if you like. :-)

Behind the scene S8 turns into a comic of their own.

Only a cartoon. To be a comic I'd have to draw another 22 pages of this...

Lack of artistic talent? You're 278,853 times better than Georges Jeanty. Although so is my cat...

Posted by: StephenT (stormwreath)
Posted at: 14th March 2010 19:03 (UTC)

Thanks! But I don't know, Jeanty's much better at facial expressions, and depicting movement, and well, just about everything else than me.

Go be heroes

I don't quite feel kindly enough to feel sorry for him, because he took way too long to get up to speed on the issues, but he is certainly not in an enviable place, carrying the can for decisions made by Joss.

Posted at: 14th March 2010 19:04 (UTC)

He's the public face of Season 8, true; though I think he gets unfairly blamed for not being a *fan* as opposed to a guy doing a job.

Posted by: Elena (moscow_watcher)
Posted at: 13th March 2010 11:20 (UTC)

LOL!

I recognize myself - that evil fan with a scythe and hoofs instead of feet is definitely me! :) Although my scythe is bigger and meaner. :)

Posted by: StephenT (stormwreath)
Posted at: 14th March 2010 19:05 (UTC)

You had me worried for a moment wondering whom I drew so badly that you thought they had hooves, then I realised (a) I hadn't actually drawn anyone's feet (b) you were joking. :-)

Hasn't he answered that question already in one of the comic-comments? IIRC he wrote that he felt the time was right for Buffy/Xander. (Really now, where are the Bander-shippers in that drawing of yours? Already been slayn or what?)

Posted by: mikeda (mikeda)
Posted at: 13th March 2010 15:54 (UTC)

where are the Bander-shippers

They're waiting for the Spuffy and Bangel factions to fight it out.

I mean, would you want to get between them?

:-D. Great!

Patxshand on the boards at Dark Horse had done somehing a little similar about the shippers wars there. It was very funny too.

I have to say I never got into the Dark Horse boards; I felt the heat-to-light ratio was too high.

He could just do what Joss did once and say Buffy's one true love is Parker Abrams...

:-)

Joss is a very wise, and very snarky, man. ;-)

Posted by: treadingthedark (treadingthedark)
Posted at: 13th March 2010 17:57 (UTC)

I think he's answering because he stuck his foot in his mouth with his Spike comments after the very first issue, and is still trying to find a way to pull it out.

Posted by: StephenT (stormwreath)
Posted at: 14th March 2010 19:10 (UTC)

'Stuck his foot in his mouth' in the sense of answering a question much like this one, in the hearing of fans?

Thick skin, the ability to run away very fast, an army of superpowered bodyguards... definitely something on those lines is needed...

I always did wonder about the number of male shippers in the fandom :p.

Posted by: StephenT (stormwreath)
Posted at: 14th March 2010 19:12 (UTC)

I'm sure there are a few, somewhere.

In my picture, they're in the background of the two mobs among those greyed-out outlines of people. ;-)

Posted by: coalitiongirl (coalitiongirl)
Posted at: 14th March 2010 00:47 (UTC)

LOL. Of course, I'd probably have a little more compassion for him if he didn't keep answering the question... :D

Posted by: StephenT (stormwreath)
Posted at: 14th March 2010 19:12 (UTC)

Well, he didn't notice the two mobs lurking in the background waiting to hear his answer before pouncing...

Posted by: erimthar (erimthar)
Posted at: 14th March 2010 18:31 (UTC)

The correct answer to the reporter's question is, of course, Joss. :-)

I just wonder why fans seem to think Scott has any say at all over who Buffy winds up with.

Posted by: StephenT (stormwreath)
Posted at: 14th March 2010 19:14 (UTC)

I think 99% of it is because Joss only rarely gives interviews, and Scott is readily available, and fans are desperate to tell somebody - anybody - about how they think the story ought to go. Plus there may be some misconceptions on how much control Scott has over the storyline.
