The history of Middle-Earth (chibi version): Part 59: Green shoots

27th August 2013 (00:17)

According to canon, Melian was a servant of "both Vána and Estë", which is why they're the two Valar she's talking to here. But trust Yavanna to know all about plants.

More comments from the Chorus

TILION: Typical. That airhead Melian is more interested in looking at boring old weeds and sucking up to the Valar than talking with us.

ARIEN: Yeah, it's not like my interest in Balrogs is that weird. I'm a fire spirit myself.

TILION: You are?

ARIEN: Yeah, the only good one in all of Eä and it gets lonely sometimes. Of course I'm gonna be interested in other ones even if they are evil demons.

TILION: No need to feel lonely. You could always go Flame On for me. Especially if you're wearing sexy lingerie like that female Balrog way back in Part 13. That would be hot. Uh, no pun intended.

(Arien backs very, very quickly away from him, and bumps into Eönwë.)

EÖNWË: Watch it.

ARIEN: Sorry, Staff.

EÖNWË: That's all right. By the way, have you seen Ossë anywhere?

ARIEN: No, Staff. Why?

EÖNWË: I wanted to have a word with him. He wasn't pulling his weight during that battle. Almost as if he didn't want us to defeat Melkor.

ARIEN: Well, Ossë is a water spirit. Maybe he just isn't very good on dry land.

EÖNWË: Maybe, but he's always been a bit of a rebel, enjoys doing his own thing too much. Don't let anyone know I said this, but that Ulmo's too soft on him at times.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Since Eönwë's the flagbearer, I'm assuming he's a high-ranking NCO like a Staff Sergeant. (The title Staff Sergeant actually comes from a staff as in a flagpole, hence the alternate name Colour Sergeant, again referring to flags.) Of course, this is more proof that he can't be Manwë's son. With family connections like that, there's no way he would've been a mere NCO.

Poor Tilion. Drawn like a moth to the flame...

You've inspired me to create the Arien chibi, shown here with a friend from the old days:

YAVANNA: "So, Vána, the rest of us have been sweating with these big heavy swords my husband made. How's that flower working out for you?"

VANA: "Pretty well, actually. I've rigged it to shoot curare darts."

YAVANNA: "...."

VANA: "What? Just because I look like a hippy..."

Heh. I briefly considered giving her a sword, then decided to leave her with the flower. She waves it under an Orc's nose and the perfume sends it into a sleep From Which There Is No Awakening™.
