The history of Middle-Earth (chibi version): Part 61: Battle plans

2nd September 2013 (16:07)

You have to imagine that the legions of Orcs are actually stretching away far into the distance, and this cartoon only shows a few of them. :)

I did wonder what to put on the flags the Orcs are carrying, but then I remembered this scene from the Silmarillion when Fingolfin challenges Melkor to a duel:

"Therefore Morgoth came, climbing slowly from his subterranean throne, and the rumour of his feet was like thunder underground. And he issued forth clad in black armour; and he stood before the king like a tower, iron-crowned, and his vast shield, sable unblazoned, cast a shadow over him like a stormcloud."

So there you go. The arms of Morgoth are sable, with no charges or ordinaries. So a plain black flag it is. :)

It must have really sucked to be an orc during this war, since they were the only ones who could die permanently.

I think it really sucks to be an Orc in any time and place, actually. :(

don't stop

I happened to find your "Royal Houses of the Noldor" somehow. That was already so awesome that I clicked on your link and found this. It is beyond spectacular. Please try to find a way to get it commercially published. This work is too valuable to lose.

Re: don't stop

Glad you like it. I'm not planning on stopping for as long as inspiration holds out!

Don't know about the 'commercial publication' part, though. The Tolkien Estate's attack lawyers are scary from all I've heard, and I think a 'chibi version' of the Silmarillion is exactly the sort of thing Christopher Tolkien would loathe more than anything in the world...

Thanks for reading!
