The history of Middle-Earth (chibi version): Part 75: Let's vote on it

24th October 2013 (17:09)

Hands up all those who've always wanted to see the percentages of the Avari-Eldar split explained in a pie chart?
\o_

The name 'Eldar' was given to all the Elves by Oromë, but at this time, it became associated with only those Elves who chose to go to Valinor. The Avari rejected it, and continued to use the original Elvish word for Elves, 'Quendi', to describe themselves. Later on, the Avari were marginalised and written out of the historical record, and 'Eldar' came to be seen as the generic term for all Elves again. Except by the Avari, but nobody asked their opinion.

Also, for the record: 'Lindar' is what the Third Kindred called themselves. 'Teleri' is what the other Elves called them.

:) It took me a while to think how to angle the pie chart to best show the split within each kindred as well as the overall split!

It's too bad Tatië isn't around anymore to explain the math and present the pie chart. Maybe she could have invented the PowerPoint presentation.

I'm pretty sure Sauron invented PowerPoint. :)
