Apologies for the exchange between Celegorm and Maglor here. I couldn't resist.

Also, say what you like about Fëanor, but I do think he is the first person to realise Melkor actually is Evil, as opposed to just misguided and misunderstood.

Aw. I think Fëanor is arrogant, pigheaded, hot-tempered and lacking in common sense at times, but I've never seen him as evil.

OTOH by this stage Fëanor thinks *everyone* is evil. (e.g. his half brothers, Manwë, etc.) And by the law of averages he just happens to be right about one of them.
