The History of Middle-earth (chibi version) - Part 261 - Left behind

4th January 2016 (12:08)

Happy new year!

Though I don't think Fingolfin and his followers are having a happy year at all...  Elves really must have excellent eyesight if they can see a fire from the other side of the not-Atlantic; though admittedly the world is still flat at this point, so there's no actual horizon yet. Just, presumably, blurring due to distance (and mountains blocking the view for people at ground level, but that doesn't apply to looking over an ocean).

Chibis by the now-dead website formerly known as tektek.org
Original story by and copyright to J R R Tolkien, ed. C Tolkien: Primarily based on the Silmarillion, but incorporating ideas from the 12-volume History of Middle Earth series.

GALADRIEL: "Hey... wait a minute... it's only a thousand yards or so to the other side! How could we have missed that?"

AREDHEL: "Maybe we should swim over."

GALADRIEL: "No need. It's only a couple of feet deep. We can wade."

    FINGOLFIN: "HEY! FEANOR!"

    FEANOR: "WHAT?"

FINGOLFIN: "STAY RIGHT THERE. I'M COMING OVER TO KICK YOUR ARSE!"

GALADRIEL: "Now, how can we wade across without having to lift our skirts and scandalize our author?"

Nah, it's 3000 miles or so. It just looks nearer to elven eyesight. :)
