After he acquired the Imprisoned and Maimed traits, a faction sent a demand for him to abdicate the throne to the pretender, and he ceded instead of fighting.

I'm curious to know how you calculated Feanor's age at his death. The chronology of the Silmarillion especially always strikes me as deliberately hazy. It does give it a wonderful timelessness but it's tricky to get a handle on things.

Fëanor was born in Year of the Trees 1169 and died in YT 1197. That's 328 years. One Valian year was equal to 9.582 solar years, so 328 x 9.582 equals 3142.9 years old as we would calculate it.

The timelines are in volumes 10 and 11 of the History of Middle-earth series.
