Three Buffy season 8 icons. Personally, I'm quite looking forward to it; but having seen some of the reactions from other people around here, I made a couple of these especially for you. :) Feel free to use, share, etc.

Hee! Love the first one. My feelings about the gun thing aren't as strong as the others. Especially when I'm staring at Buffy in one of my S4 side-covers (just bought the season) and here she is holding a gun. She also killed the judge with one. Characters may say certain things but sometimes they do the opposite. It's the same with Xander who told Willow in Lover's Walk that he doesn't trust magic, especially without talking to Giles about it, then we see him irresponsibly summoning Sweet in OMWF. I was angry and bitter about it, so I really don't blame anyone who's angry about the gun, but eventually I learned to live with it.

I'm starting to be positive about the comics, thinking from the "Yay, more Xander!!!" angle. Makes me feel a lot happier and relaxed. I'd also love if we're considering it canon because it'll give us more to work with in fanfic, from the reactions of people I think some will consider it canon while others will stick to the aired episodes.

While it's slightly annoying to now have to put 'AU' against most of the existing post-S7 fics, I don't have a big problem with it. And I'm thrilled to get an official number for the quantity of Slayers in the world (1800 of them).

As for the gun, as I said to Chani before, it's not really a gun, more a kind of weird forcefield-zapper. It's just that the first released panels of the strip look more like Fray or a Firefly/Serenity comic than a Buffy one: we'll have to see what the rest is like. I wonder if they're aiming more at a male than a female audience, and that explains the publicity we've seen so far?

Yeah, that's what really bugs and hurts. All the amazing post-Chosen fics that had gone jossed. Reminds me of a great Spander epic (The Stranger Things Series, written during the airing of S4) I read years ago, it was written before we discovered that Spike used to be a poet (pre-Fool For Love)which had Spike's past completely differnet but believable in the sense that Spike had a rough childhood, living in the streets, has a whore for a mother... got jossed after Fool For Love.

I was meaning to write a fic with Buffy in Rome, been dumped by The Immortal. Strangely after hearing the spoilers of the comics I lost my intrest, I didn't expect that I'll take the news as canon.

Stormy, these icons are very pretty and very funny. And I'd love to see more of your vid work as well.

I've always been surprised at how many ficcers are bugged about being "jossed", since to my perspective, unless your goal is specifically to fit into canon, said canon is better treated as a starting point rather than the final word. No matter how much I'm trying to fit into canon myself, I generally feel free to wank/change any details, regardless of how much was "unequivocally established" and how much was implied or inferred (e.g, character motivations). All depends on the story I'm trying to tell. For me, fanfic is like the legal drinking age in Canada: "Just a suggestion!"

Thank you! Unfortunately, assuming you've seen the four vids on my web page I haven't done any more as yet... I find vidding fun but also hard work, and it's more of a sideline. I do have a work in progress, though.

As for fanfic, I suppose I'm more on the opposite side: I prefer to follow canon and "fill in the missing details" or extrapolate from known situations. I've got no problem with AUs as such, but even then I prefer it if the changes are specific and believable and the consequences of them are logical - I see it as a matter of elegance more than anything else.

As for new S8 revelations, I like to think of them as a challenge: see my reply to lusciousxander...

I was meaning to write a fic with Buffy in Rome, been dumped by The Immortal. Strangely after hearing the spoilers of the comics I lost my intrest,

"When I accepted this job and took on Buffy's identity, I didn't expect I'd have to take on her crappy love life as well. Yet here I am, just been dumped by some guy I wouldn't even have glanced at six months ago. Let me tell you how it happened.

"And please excuse me if I call myself 'Buffy' in the story: it's pretty much second nature now."

- take it from there. :)

My opinion exactly; we just got two brand new Buffies to play with! Seriously, who would volunteer to be her?

(The femmeslash crowd are going to have a field day with this! You got your Buffy/Buffy/Buffy, of course, your Buffy/Faith/Buffy/Willow/Buffy, and you *know* some people are going to jump at the chance to finally write some Buffy/Dawn without the ick.)

I like the way you think. :)

"Are you sure about this, Will?"

"Hey, would I lie to you? Uh, anyway, we've got to get the doubles looking exactly like you, don't we? And that means magic."

"But why do I have to be naked?"

"Well, I need to get the details, right, don't I? Now roll over..."

These are very funny. Have you seen any more of these?

I have seen the 'She's coming' one you posted here being used elsewhere, but not any others as yet.

I take requests, though...

Love 'em. Taking "Never Useful" into my folder of favorites.

By the way, .png format is nicer than .jpg for drawings/comics because it preserves the sharp borders and highlights much better.

Last Waltz

1) I don't know I've seen the specific Immortal spoilers. Link please?

2) Took the second one.

3) I accept that ("Never useful.") as part of her. Don't so much agree, but I'm not Buffy. I'm wondering what Joss is doing here.

1) Here.

2) Yay!

3) Possibly, to quote Fred in A5.07, Joss and the artists are simply "Turned on by a woman holding an enormous gun. What a surprise." :)

Then again, right there on the third page of the strip Buffy's already asking herself "What the hell am I doing?". I suspect that all this Initiative-style combat gear is just as weird for her as it is for us, and that's actually supposed to be a big part of the story...

No Fair Fights

OK, that's just dumping it on the floor. That's nice. "I've started this little tempest, now I'm gonna pour out this whole teapot."

Now, how did Andrew know about the Angel/Immortal rivalry? Ah, forget it.

Right now, I'm wrestling with the idea (as in, flashbacks written; contemporary stuff, not so much) of a post-Chosen slayer who was a soldier in Iraq. I've been wanting to have a "Never useful" conversation between the two but can't get 'em together.

But I think it's her role as leader of Slayers that's weirding her, because the times she came close in BtVS (Mission:Impossible-ing the Mayor's office, rocketing the Judge, breaking into the Initiative), she thought it was kinda nifty.

But yeah, might be the Fred thing....
