Half a dozen gratuitous Kennedy and Satsu icons, because another month is far too long to wait for the next Buffy comic.

ComicB Buffy cover blur

Yup! I'm so glad they didn't just sweep Satsu under the rug.

My guess is new cover too. But I regretfully stopped trying to "collect" those before the issues are actually released -- too many times inadvertently spoiled :S

So this is what Stormy's been doing! Well, the extra month gives you more time to catch up on the latest FtVS ep ;)

Well, I guess it's a spoiler that Satsu and Kennedy appear in a future issue...

Don't worry, I'm still reading it. :-)

Satsu & Buffy 1

Those are beautiful! Very well done. I get the feeling that by the end of issue #22 I’m going to have a new ‘ship to heart.

Thanks!

Although I'd be equally happy to have an issue where two of the lesbian characters (as opposed to "the two lesbian characters") simply meet and talk and fight evil and stuff, without any form of relationship developing between them.

Of course. I was speaking from a purely fanfic point of view. Given that this is Buffy and Joss I stopped looking at the gender of the characters and their hookups a long time ago. It honestly never occurred to me that they’d get it on just because they’re both hot lesbians.

That said I doubt there will be any sort of canonal attraction between the two. We’ll be treated to a couple of strong and well portrayed women in charge. Both ethnic minorities (at least here in the States) by the way if you want to get technical.

The idea of a fanfiction ‘ship interested me mostly from the point of view of what it would mean for Kennedy to cheat on Willow. While it would certain validate the negative view so many have of her, the drama of what it would take to get her to such a point for the act to even be possible fascinates me.

As Kennedy’s relationship with Willow has been portrayed so far in season eight, at least in my opinion, she is much more in love with Willow than Willow is with her.

But you do raise a good point that a fanfic author would have to carefully navigate.

Well, traditionally, of course, gay characters are so rare in mainstream shows that to have two of them who are not each other's love interest - or rivals - is a positive luxury. :-)

I certainly agree that in S7 Kennedy was much more in love with Willow than vice-versa; Willow often seemed more confused as to why Kennedy would see anything in her. But I think a lot of that was Willow's insecurities and remaining grief for Tara, and my own impression is that her feelings for Kennedy have grown in the meantime.

Saga Vasuki notwithstanding...

“Well, traditionally, of course, gay characters are so rare in mainstream shows that to have two of them who are not each other's love interest - or rivals - is a positive luxury”

True and it really is a shame because it does limit some dramatic storytelling potential. Or at least clouds the origin of the story. Really after Tara could Joss ever put one of his gay characters in true mortal jeopardy without invoking the thought that he’s doing it just to prove some sort of point? Even if it is just a tiny stray thought in the mind of the reader/viewer?

Heck, I know better but when I rewatch season two I still see the unintended message in Angel losing his soul after Buffy slept with him.

On the Willow subject…

It’s not just Saga Vasuki, but the general uneasiness I’ve gotten from Willow in season eight. It’s true that in real life couples one person is usually more in love than the other, but BtVS is a horror show so the worst possible outcome must always be considered. Secrecy has always been part of Willow’s character, but so has lack of good judgement. At first the explanation of why she kept Buffy and Kennedy apart fit and the seemingly aloofness she had from the army early on, but now in light recent revelations one does have to wonder if Willow in the now is messed up with something she really shouldn’t be part of.

It would certainly explain the feeling I’ve gotten that her mind is elsewhere in her scenes with Kennedy. (And I don’t mean the ones where her mind literally IS elsewhere :-)) And I hope this didn’t sound bashing toward Willow because that wasn’t my intention. I feel such a story line would fit in with the morally/ethically questionable choices theme season eight seems to be working under.

That really is a beautiful cover. I love what you've done with the colours, especially in #3.

Thanks! Although the sky did end up looking green, which wasn't entirely intended; I was just trying to get their skin colours more natural-looking.
