12th August 2013 (12:46)

'Deus vult!' (Latin for 'God wills it!') was the battlecry of the First Crusade. In 1095 Pope Urban II told a massed gathering of French knights and nobles that it was their sacred duty to go and recapture Jerusalem from the infidel, and they responded by shouting that slogan.

Part 55: Deus vult

Next time: Part 56: Charge!
