The History of Middle-earth (chibi version) - Part 97: Last sailing

3rd February 2014 (17:07)

I didn't get chance to post on Friday because I was finishing my tax return instead. :)

Will Círdan ever find a way to cross the Sea? Readers of Lord of the Rings already know the answer. :)

Part 97: Last sailing

Next time: Part 98: Lonely island.

Chibis by tektek.org
Original story by and copyright to J R R Tolkien, ed. C Tolkien: Primarily based on the Silmarillion, but incorporating ideas from the 12-volume History of Middle Earth series.

CIRDAN: "I'm assuming this thing I'm holding does something... I just have to figure out what!"

I'm not sure why Ossë and Uinen couldn't have visited the Elves just as easily in Aman as in Beleriand.

The thing he's holding is for looking at the stars with! Every Elf should have one.

I assume the problem with Osse and Uinen is a matter of jurisdiction. They're in charge of the seas of Middle-earth, so going to Aman would be deserting their post.

CIRDAN: "Hmmm... also, my name means ship-wright, so I guess the next step is to figure out what these ships are I'm supposed to be wrighting."

There was a delay of several decades as Cirdan misinterpreted both "ship" and "wright". It may be some consolation that he did produce lots of excellent fanfic.

Quite an achievement considering the Elves hadn't yet invented writing. :)
