The History of Middle-earth (chibi version) - Part 111: The thousand caves

24th March 2014 (18:53)

I'm planning one more cartoon about the Sindar of Doriath (for Thursday), then it's time to go back to Valinor to see what Finwë and Míriel and their friends are up to. Unless anybody is really desperately pining for me to do a bunch of cartoons about the arrival of the Nandor and settlement of Ossiriand?
:)

Re: Still "Celegorm the Fair"

Remember that Gondolin was the Hidden Kingdom; nobody was allowed in or out - and what Aredhel said when Turgon seemed to think that rule should apply to her too:

"I am your sister and not your servant, and beyond your bounds I will go as seems good to me. And if you begrudge me an escort, then I will go alone".

What happened to her with Eol can be put down to Stockholm Syndrome, in my eyes. She was kidnapped and held against her will (by magic), and came to terms with her captivity to the extent of agreeing - "not wholly unwilling" as Tolkien puts it - to marry her captor.

It's funny that Finwë had all those grandsons, and only two granddaughters, both of whom were noted as being much more masculine in behaviour than the average woman. The testosterone runs strong in the House of Finwë...
