9th February 2015 (19:52)

There actually are characters in this cartoon, not just dialogue. You just have to look closely. :)

Part 187: Cold pursuit

Next time: Part 188: Vigil

Chibis by tektek.org
Original story by and copyright to J R R Tolkien, ed. C Tolkien: Primarily based on the Silmarillion, but incorporating ideas from the 12-volume History of Middle Earth series.

I'm assuming the Valar can see in normal darkness and it's Ungoliant's and Melkor's spiritual darkness they can't see into. The starlight should be enough to see by anyway.

Manwe should have said, "We let him get away with it. AGAIN."

It's in the book that the Darkness Ungoliant vomited out drowned the whole of Valinor as high as the highest mountain top, and none of the Valar could see into it except Manwë, "who sees further than all other eyes". But even he couldn't see into the inner core of the Darkness where Ungoliant was.

It's also canon that Manwë summons up a wind to blow away the darkness - but only after Melkor has escaped. After that, the world is indeed lit by starlight.

Kinda makes you wonder if any deaths were caused by that sudden darkness, what with Elves possibly stumbling all over Taniquetil.

Now we are kinda at a part of the story that I imagine is quite difficult to make funny, kind of one of the extreme downers of the Silmarillion and no squabbling Elves to make light of it.
I alost miss Feanor... ;-)

To be fair, I think of this series as being 'irreverent' rather than necessarily 'funny'. :)
