(Vid) Do You Hear The People Sing?

24th March 2008 (23:05)
accomplished

current mood: accomplished

Well, when I say 'vid' I actually mean "collection of still images from the 'Angel:After The Fall' comics, with zooms and scans and fancy transitions to bring them to life, set to music." But I'm pleased with it anyway. Even if Spike wouldn't be...

This vid contains spoilers for A:AtF issues 1 through 5. Srsly.

SPIKE: Hey, after we save Fred, we should hit the West End, take in a show.
ANGEL: I've never seen Les Mis.
SPIKE: Trust me, halfway through the first act, you'll be drinking humans again.
(From 'A Hole in the World')

Title: Do You Hear The People Sing? (English version) / À La Volonté Du Peuple (Version française)
Music: From 'Les Misérables'
Images: From 'Angel:After the Fall' issues 1 - 5.
Summary: Does the beating of your heart echo the beating of the drum?

Do You Hear The People Sing? (English version)

À La Volonté Du Peuple (Version française)

...Yes, that's two versions of the vid - there are a few minor differences apart from the language. Take your pick. :-)

Thanks to frenchani and candleanfeather for assistance with the French version. Feedback is love; constructive criticism is tough love. :-)

Do You Hear The People Sing?

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?

Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free!

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

Will you give all you can give
So that our banner may advance?
Some will fall and some will live,
Will you stand up and take your chance?
The blood of the martyrs
Will water the meadows of France!

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

À La Volonté Du Peuple
(With my own translation)

À la volonté du peuple
Et à la santé du progrès,
Remplis ton coeur d'un vin rebelle
Et à demain, ami fidèle.
Si ton coeur bat aussi fort
Que le tambour dans le lointain,
C'est que l'espoir existe encore
Pour le genre humain.

To the people's will
and to the health of progress,
fill your heart with a rebel wine
and to tomorrow, faithful friend.
If your heart beats as strongly
as the distant drum,
It's because hope still exists
For the human race.

Nous ferons d'une barricade
Le symbole d'une ère qui commence.
Nous partons en croisade
Au coeur de la terre sainte de France.

We will make from a barricade
The symbol of an era which begins.
We are leaving on crusade
To the heart of the sacred soil of France.

Nous sommes désormais
Les guerriers d'une armée qui s'avance.

We are henceforth
The warriors of an advancing army.

À la volonté du peuple
Et à la santé du progrès,
Remplis ton coeur d'un vin rebelle
Et à demain, ami fidèle.
Si ton coeur bat aussi fort
Que le tambour dans le lointain,
C'est que l'espoir existe encore
Pour le genre humain.

(As before)

À la volonté du peuple,
Je fais don de ma volonté;
S'il faut mourir pour elle,
Moi, je veux être le premier:
Le premier nom gravé
Au marbre du monument d'espoir!

To the people's will,
I make a gift of my will;
If I must die for it
I want to be the first:
The first name carved
In the marble of the monument of hope!

À la volonté du peuple
Et à la santé du progrès,
Remplis ton coeur d'un vin rebelle
Et à demain, ami fidèle.
Si ton coeur bat aussi fort
Que le tambour dans le lointain,
C'est que l'espoir existe encore
Pour le genre humain.

(As before)

This video made my laugh with joy on a cold day in the Pacific Northwest.

I am friending you. I was supposed to do so months ago and failed. :-D

Always happy to provide joy. :-)

Speaking of which, you're actually the 100th person to friend me since I started this LJ. I feel like there should be lights flashing and music playing andsome kind of ceremony...
