There were 4 songs there that I should have gotten but didn't. Eurythmics, Blondie, Pretenders, and Patti Smith. Several others from bands I like but am not an expert on (Pogues, Cranberries, Undertones).

And I have that Enya song, but of course never would have gotten it from the written lyrics. You'd think my Irish ancestry would genetically make Gaelic less baffling to me, but it doesn't.

Happily for me, my circle of friends back in the 90s included two Irish women who, between them (and one of them's mother) managed to translate most of 'Smaointe' for me. (These days, of course, you could just Google it.)

Incidentally, The Men They Couldn't Hang were very similar in style and background (ie, a Celtic-influenced folk/punk group from London) to the Pogues, except not quite so loud and raucous.

I had completely forgotten about that chick that sang she missed Buffy! However I remember now that you and I talked about her selling her album on the internet. I was quite judgemental, I think.

I guess I could kick myself for Dido's song since I own the album in question.

You thought Megan Gogerty selling her 'fan tribute' on a commercial basis was immoral, as I recall. :-)

It's interesting to see I have three songs in there from the 70s, eight from the 80s, three from the 90s and six from the 00s. I think I'm showing my age... (I was 16 in 1980)

Though the figures are distorted since I had quite a lot of 60s and early 70s music on vinyl and cassette tape, but wasn't so keen on it that I felt the urge to go out and buy it all on CD or MP3 all over again... so of course none of it appears in my iTunes playlists.

For the benefit of anyone with a Spotify account (now available free in the UK and selected Northern European countries) here is a link to 13 of these songs and a cover version of one other:
